The book was a private project by Elk Grove Citizen Lifestyle Editor Lance Armstrong, who spent more than three years collecting historical information via interviews, historical records and compiling one of Elk Grove's most extensive collections of historical photographs. The book itself includes more than 1,200 of these images. As the first book ever written entirely about the history of Elk Grove, Echoes of yesterday chronicles various sites of the area and reveals its connection to agriculture and several well-known historical places and events such as the Monterey Trail, the Bear Flag Revolt and the first county free library in California.
